Monday September 23 was a day to get things ready for the big day of forming the birchbark. Wayne and crew hauled bags of dried spruce roots to the wood shop and set them to soaking.
The ribs have been soaking in the lake to make them good and pliable when needed.
Wayne had brought a supply of prepared spruce roots down to Madison in two large sacks.
One of the sacks was emptied into water to soak in preparation for the first sewing on the canoe.
Wayne has found many ways to do his work: this bag of golf tees will play a role in a future step–stay tuned!
